UP and DOWN

BOGIE
On non-bogied wagons, wheels are attached to the sideframes which are directly attached to the wagon body. Normally found on short wheel-base wagons. On bogied wagons, wheels are attached to smaller sideframes which are then attached to the wagon body by means of pivots which allows the bogie (wheel...

Swing Nose
(refer to FROG and illustration thereof)
Swing nose is the FROG part of the point/switch/turnout which moves according to which way the point/switch/turnout are set to form a continuous rail - whereas in a non-swing type of point/switch/turnout there are gaps.

DIAMOND Crossing
A diamond crossing is where two lines cross : see - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/potter55/diamond.gif (please excuse the quick sketch) A diamond crossing can also have one or two SLIPS which then act as points, thus switching trains from one set of rails to the other, see - http://homepage.ntlworld....

Frog
Possible correction : Acute crossing is I believe another name for a DIAMOND crossing. FROG is also known as the "Vee" because of the shape the rails make. In modelling terms, one can have an INSULATED frog or a LIVE frog. In an insulated frog, the tip of the "vee" is usually mad...
